In fiscal year 2019, Congress approved funding for the construction of a new approximately 123,100-gross-square-foot federal courthouse in Huntsville, Alabama, for the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Alabama. The new courthouse will include five courtrooms and six judges’ chambers and will provide workspace for several other federal agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the U.S Probation and Pretrial Services.

Slated for completion in spring 2021, the new courthouse will provide eight courtrooms and 11 judges’ chambers. The Rio Reimagined 2018 Ideas Competition encompasses a 58-mile geographic span including the Rio Salado and Gila Rivers. The Rio Reimagined belongs to the eight communities along the river corridor as they partner in creating a vibrant, urban riverfront for the valley. This historically significant and underutilized natural resource has been reimagined as a unifying public space that enhances social equity. A creative and collective effort is needed to integrate priorities of public open space, environmental quality, housing, transportation, economic and workforce development, community sustainability and resilience.
